Isla Del Leyendas: Part 17

They honestly thought they were safe enough to be able to sleep?

Stupid Trainers.

Ten left.

Not quite enough gone to launch his final assault, but possibly only two, three more to go at the least.

And the group’s confidence in each other was shattered, Moltres and Lugia’s Chosen hated Entai’s with a fiery passion.

One of the two who were supposed to be on guard were asleep…

Now was the time to attack…

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Pikapi! PIKAPI!!!!”

“Just shock him, we need him up.”

“I’m up!” Ash mumbled, opening his eyes. Then he really was up as he reached for his Pokeballs. “Galie!” His dark/ice type appeared, and froze the nearest ghost, “Who was supposed to be on guard?” Ash growled, in his customary who-in-their-right-mind-would-wake-me-up frame of mind as he tried to process things. There were people missing… who was missing?

“It was Greg and Juni’s turn.” Katherine called.

Ash’s Pokemon moved faster then Ash could order them, they were much more awake than he was. By the time the Battle was over, Ash had finally worked out who was missing. “Where’s Juni and Hayley?”

“Juni fell asleep on duty, she went missing at Battle’s start, Hayley shot down the passageway before I could stop her.” Darius looked upset and worried.

“You should’ve woken Juni up!” Rex snarled at Greg, who looked pale.

“I didn’t know she’d fallen asleep!”

“How could you not know?” Iason snarled, “The idea was that we’d keep each other awake, or were you so busy focusing on glaring at people that you weren’t watching your partner?”

Ash was angry. But not as angry as he knew he should be. He should be getting very angry, but he couldn’t, his brain just wouldn’t work.

“Is it safe for us to stay here and rest some more? Or should we move along?” Katherine asked.

“I’m not leaving him on guard again.” Rex snarled with a pointed look at Greg.

“We need to rest…” Darius said.

“I hear a but.” Raven put in.

Darius glared at him, “How can we feel safe when we can’t trust each other? Divide and conquer. We are divided and have been pretty much conquered ever since we fell in this situation.”

“You expect me to trust him now?” Rex asked. Everyone knew which he Rex meant.

Darius sighed, “No, I don’t. I don’t think we trust each other, and we won’t be learning to trust each other any time soon with the way we’ve been acting.”

“Guys, we’ve acted like idiots ever since we dropped down here.” Katherine said.

“We need to start over, I think,” Ash said, trying to make sure he made sense, “And work together as best as we can now, there were nineteen of us, now we’re just eight, we’ve made mistakes, and it’s cost us big time.”

“Ash?”

“We have to work as a team, the gifts that have been taken, will grant our enemy resistances to our Pokemon, our Pokemon will not win this alone. We need to work together, especially as he now has Hayley and Juni’s strength and elemental abilities. Not one of us can win this alone.”

“You know, you make more sense when you’re mostly asleep then you do sometimes when you’re fully awake.” Rex pointed out.

“However he has a point.” Iason said, “He is right, we have to work together now.”

Ash’s eyes drooped, and he started as someone grabbed his shoulders. “Stay awake now, Ash, we need to make plans.” Ash looked up, to his surprise it was Greg that had caught him.

“Ash and Iason need at least another two hours sleep, they got ten… sorry twenty minutes maximum, so someone needs to stand guard while they get enough sleep to be ready for any upcoming battles.” Katherine said, smiling slightly, it seemed something had sunk in after all.

Sleep… sleep would be so good. It was all Ash could do to keep his eyes open. He felt warm and his eyes did not want to open. He pinched his arm; the pain woke him up slightly.

“Mew says that the legendary Pokemon are almost all gathered, even those who are linked to us, Mew says we’re running out of time.” Danielle whispered to Darius, who seemed the sanest out of the lot. Darius just nodded.

“Do we have time to allow them another two hours?”

“We have five hours left, and then all hell will break loose and it will take all of us to prevent it.”

“Guys?” Iason asked.

“We only have time for two hours of sleep. Then we have to move fast.” Danielle said.

“Information from Mew?” Rex asked.

Danielle just nodded.

“I’ll stand guard then.” Darius said, “And anyone else who thinks they’ll be ok for the next… eight hours. But we’ll have to be careful. Tired people make mistakes.”

In the end Darius, Katherine and Greg stayed awake and the rest went back to sleep.

“You caught Ash, why?” Katherine asked Greg, once the others had settled down to sleep.

Greg shrugged. “Automatic reaction. I was still half asleep.”

Katherine sighed, “Greg, what has he done to deserve your hate? We need to work together, put aside your rage.”

“I don’t hate Ash.” Greg said, looking startled.

“Right, so you’ve been glaring at him… why?”

“Watching him. I’ve been watching him, since the Ghosts seem to have focused on Ash. That and he has no common sense.”

“Well, you haven’t displayed much sense since we fell.”

Greg glared, “I don’t like small spaces. I don’t like being underground. And I don’t like feeling like I’m being hunted. I have every right to be in a bad mood right now.” Greg’s gaze rested on the teen, who was curled up with his Pikachu.

“True, but you’ve been completely antagonistic towards Ash since he came round after Faith healed his leg.” Katherine said, “We have to work together now, and common sense or not, Ash is one of the best Trainers we have here, and if you didn’t realise, even without Ash commanding them, his Pokemon took out more ghosts in that battle, then anyone else’s. Why take it out on Ash? It’s not like he’s done anything to you?”

“I noticed, and I don’t have a clue how he managed that.”

“Managed what?” Katherine asked, “Not doing anything to you? Or being one of the best?”

“Didn’t you notice on the boat? Ash’s Pokemon trust him completely, but they often decide how to react before Ash tells them, he’s not a Trainer, he just has a good set of Pokemon.”

“Okay, that sentence is wrong in so many ways. I did notice that, I also noticed Ash’s Pokemon start an attack a moment before Ash calls that attack more often then not. They just know him really well.”

“But how can he get away with that? His Pokemon shouldn’t be acting like that, what the point of a battle if the Pokemon decide what they are going to do? It’s meant to be about the Trainer’s skill, not the power of the Pokemon.”

“Ash’s skill as a Trainer comes from trusting his Pokemon. He trained them and he trained them well.”

“And in return they trust him without question, I’ve seen Pikachu cut off the attack it had started a couple of times, for a less typical manoeuvre.” Darius said, “Sorry, I overheard your conversation.”

“I hadn’t noticed that. When did Pikachu cut off it’s attack?”

“You should have Greg, first time I noticed it was when Ash played that match against you, his second I believe. Pikachu was about use Thunderbolt to try to counter your Houndoom’s Flamethrower, when Ash asked it to use Volt Tackle to dodge it instead.”

“I remember that because that Volt Tackle knocked out your Houdoom and cost you the match.” Katherine said, remembering. Greg just scowled.

“You’re sore from that match, aren’t you?” Darius asked. “You haven’t battled him since!”

“Course not, he’s been Battling virtually everyone else. I’m surprised his Pokemon aren’t more worn down than they are.”

“Right.” Katherine and Darius shared a glance, “If you wanted to Battle that badly, why didn’t you ask him? It’s not like the rest of us would have minded, he’s beaten everyone so far.”

“Kayla beat him.”

“Yes, but then he beat her. He does that a lot.”

“You mean beat people? Yeah, I noticed.”

“No, I mean if he fails first time, he’ll try again. Then beat them the second time around.”

“Ash has plenty of sense, but it’s all Battle Sense not Common Sense.” Darius put in.

Ash rolled over and mumbled in his sleep, something about cheeseburgers. Darius just rolled his eyes and Katherine tried not to laugh.

“So…?”

“So what?” Greg asked as Darius was pointedly staring at him.

“Will you stop glaring at Ash? Will you stop picking fights? Will you try to be nicer to everyone?” Katherine said.

Greg snorted, “Why should I? It’s not like anyone has been nice to me.”

“Well with that logic… why would anyone be nice to you when you haven’t been nice to them?”

Greg gawked at Katherine.

“Ok, I don’t think I’ve had enough sleep; that actually made sense.” Greg replied.

Darius checked the clock on his Pokegear, then sighed. “Guys… Was anyone else aware that it’s like twenty past three in the morning?”

“Twenty past three?” Katherine asked. “What time did they go to sleep?”

“About twenty minutes ago.” Darius answered, “Ash and Iason came off duty at half two, Greg and Juni were on duty for twenty minutes, then that fight took ten… sorry about quarter of an hour ago.”

“So we’ve got an hour and three quarters to burn?” Greg asked.

“Looks like it.”

“What shall we do then?”

“Talk, what else?”
